President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will leave Abuja on Monday, January 26, for an official state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, according to a statement from the Presidency.
The information was made public by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. The visit is intended to deepen the longstanding friendly ties between Nigeria and Türkiye, while also opening up new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.
The visit comes in the wake of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s official trip to Nigeria in October 2021. During President Bola Tinubu’s stay, Nigeria and Türkiye are expected to hold strategic political and diplomatic talks centered on mutual interests in finance, communication, trade, and investment.The programme will feature high-level engagements between top officials from both countries, alongside the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in key areas including scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and protocol affairs.
The business forum will unite investors from Nigeria and Türkiye to explore opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.Members of President Tinubu’s delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.
Other key officials include the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the visit.
