Just in, Eropian Union sanctions RSF & SAF actors over atrocities in Sudan. The Council of the European Union on Thursday sanctioned Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) leaders over the atrocities in Sudan.
RSF Brigadier Generals, Commanders, and Algoney Hamdan Dagalo Musa, an RSF Major and the brother of the militia chief, are among the RSF and two SAF-affiliated actors impacted by the incident.
Al-Misbah Abu Zaid Talha, the commander of the Islamist group Baraa bin Malik Battalion (BBMB), and other SAF sympathizers are also subject to the restricted measures.
According to the EU, the people are connected to organizations that jeopardize security, stability, and peace, exacerbating the dire circumstances in the country in North Africa.

The body condemns violations of international humanitarian law and human rights legislation, as well as the escalation of violence and its irreversible costs to human life in Darfur and elsewhere.
The conflict, according to the EU, has claimed thousands of lives, inflicted hardship on the Sudanese people, and is a serious threat to stability and security across the region.

The regional bloc insists that “the responsibility for this war” continues to be on the shoulders of the RSF, the SAF, as well as their affiliated militias.
The latest sanctions increase those targeted by the regime to 18 individuals and eight entities. They are subject to an asset freeze and a travel ban to EU member states.
No EU citizens, corporations, or organizations are allowed to help them or provide them money in any way.
The Council reiterated its call for the restoration of the rule of law in Sudan, justice, accountability, and respect for international law and human rights law.
In December, the UK sanctioned four RSF commanders accused of carrying out atrocities in El Fasher, Sudan, including mass killings and deliberate attacks on thousands of civilians.
