A joint military operation involving United States and Nigerian forces has reportedly led to the elimination of a senior ISIS commander, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, during a major counterterrorism mission in northern Nigeria.
According to security sources, the operation focused on terrorist strongholds connected to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction linked to the ISIS terrorist network operating in the region.
